Hektoen Enteric Agar (HE)
Request InfoHektoen Enteric agar utilizes bile salts to inhibit Gram-positive organisms and some Gram-negative strains. Optimized differentiation is achieved through the addition of three carbohydrates: lactose, sucrose, and salicin. Ferric ammonium citrate and sodium thiosulfate allow for the detection of hydrogen sulfate production, aiding in differentiation by causing black-centered colonies for Salmonella.
Acid fuchsin and Bromothymol blue is an indicator system with a lower toxicity to promote improved enteric pathogen recovery.
